Dorothy Brown Memorial scholarship

This scholarship was made possible by Dorothy M Brown, whose career spanned forty-four years as a dedicated teaching professional. Ms. Brown taught the elementary grade level for thirty-eight years in Colchester. The scholarship is presented to a graduate who is pursuing a career as an elementary school teacher.

Henrietta Green Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established in April 2000 by donations made in memory of Henrietta Green, a 1928 graduate of Bacon Academy and longtime Bacon Academy Board of Trustees’ member. Mrs. Green was an elementary school teacher for over 30 years including 10 years in Colchester. This scholarship will be given to a Bacon Academy graduate pursuing a career at any grade level in the teaching profession.

Elizabeth and Ruby Cohen Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is presented to graduates of Bacon Academy to recognize the achievement and philanthropy of the Cohen family. The scholarship will be given to a graduating Senior who has been an active participant in student government or community service. This award is funded by the generosity of the Cohen’s children and grandchildren.

The LTC John F. Fielding Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established to honor the achievement, bravery and commitment to education of LTC John F Fielding. The award is funded by the generosity and spirit of connection to Bacon Academy from the Fielding Family. The scholarship is awarded to a student who has shown academic achievement in history and civics along with an interest in government and community service.

Carol Chemerynski Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established in memory of Carol Chemerynski by her friends and family. Carol was a caring and kind-hearted person who enjoyed many years working with students in the Bacon Academy guidance office. Carol graduated from Bacon Academy and worked most of her career for the Colchester School System. Education, enjoying life and being kind to others was the essence of Carol. The scholarship is awarded to a graduate who, like Carol, is caring, and through volunteering shows an appreciation for their community.

Jeannette (Gregory) Tomlinson Scholarship

This scholarship was established to recognize Jeannette’s commitment to education. A graduate of Bacon Academy, she served on the Bacon Academy Board of Trustees and later became a member of the Bacon Academy Scholarship Fund, Inc., of which she was president for many years. Jeannette spent 36 years in the education field as a guidance counselor and teacher. Twenty-eight of those years were at Bacon Academy. This scholarship will be presented to a Bacon Academy student who will be attending a college, university or other educational institution of higher learning. Consideration will be given to academic success and character.

Evelyn Clark Turner Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2020 to honor the memory of Evelyn Turner, a 1940 Bacon Academy graduate. She was a lifelong resident of Colchester. For over 50 years she served on committees to support the education of the children of Colchester. These included the Colchester Board of Education, and the Bacon Academy Scholarship Fund. Her commitment to her family and educational endeavors were paramount in her life. This scholarship is offered to a student who has chosen to pursue a medical career, in recognition and appreciation of their commitment to care for others.
