About The Bacon Academy Scholarship Fund
Mission
The object of the Bacon Academy Scholarship Fund, Inc. shall be to raise funds, and to supply such funds, through financial assistance and other aid to the graduating students of Bacon Academy who will be attending a college, university or other educational institution of higher learning.
History
Established in 1930, the stated purpose of the organization was to develop a directory of graduates. In 1990 the goal of the association was redirected to raise funds for the purpose of granting financial assistance to students graduating from Bacon Academy.
Since 1975 over 150 Bacon Academy graduates have benefited from approximately $50,000. There are three scholarships awarded through the BASF: Henrietta Green, Dorothy Brown and Bacon Academy Scholarship Fund.
Donations of $10,000 each were gifted to establish memorial scholarships for Dorothy Brown and Henrietta Green. The Brown Award goes to a student pursuing a career in elementary education and the Green award is chosen based on a desire to teach at any grade level. Both women were elementary school teachers in Colchester.
